Do you do this too?? 🤔

This morning started like every other Sunday. I come down while the rest of the house is asleep, except the dog. I make a hot drink and then I come into my office to clean out my email and start on this blog. But today before I opened my email I wanted to clear away some of the books and papers that were started to clutter up my space. An hour and a half later, I have reorganized a shelf of books, vacuumed the office, rearranged some knick knacks, lamps, etc and now have the coat closet waiting for me to organize because it also serves as overflow for my craft/art stuff. My life sometimes resembles the book, If You Give a Pig a Pancake. If you aren't familiar with that story I've linked it so you can check it out. It's a great example of how my brain works sometimes. And I'm quite sure I'm not alone. 🙂

Why does rest seem so challenging? Is my plate too full or am I just wired this way? I do feel good when I have accomplished something like rearranging a room, cleaning out a closet, or weeding the flower beds. But could it be deeper than that? I have friends that I FaceTime with during one of our ZOOM classes. I am always still working either on that class or another but they can just hang out and chat with us while we wait our appointment with the professor. I can't. I am always anxious that there's not enough time and if I don't do it right now then I might not finish. Which is crazy because I have never, not finished! But I struggle to relax or rest when I think there are tasks that need to get done. We only have so many hours in the day and if I procrastinate or put them off then there just feels like more to do and that can be overwhelming.

I have gotten better over the years. I can set aside household things or errands, etc and prioritize more restful or relaxing things or time with friends/family which feels more important. But I certainly see this as an area that I need to continue to be mindful of.

How about you? Do you, like me, struggle to rest among so many obligations? Is this an area that you have found success or progress? I'd love to hear your story. You can comment on the blog or send it to me personally.

Happy Sunday everyone and have the best week available to you!
