Which lane are you on?

I have a regular conversation with my Mama that goes something like this: I ask, “What did you do today?” and she often replies, “Oh, nothing really.” Yet she’s been busy all day with the unseen tasks that keep everything running. The truth is, her “nothing” is everything. Can you relate?
After last week’s blog, Life First, Work Second, many of you reached out to say how much it resonated. Today, let’s dive deeper. As women, there always seems to be more to do — at home, at work, and in the spaces in between. It can feel overwhelming. That’s why for years I’ve advocated for scheduling downtime and teaching clients to prioritize the things that matter most.
Hobbies, rest, even giving back — these may seem like extras, but they are actually essentials. They’re the very things that help us live with balance and fullness. Let’s break it down.
Work often shapes our identity, whether that’s as a stay-at-home mom, an entrepreneur, or a CEO. It provides financial stability and, for many, a sense of purpose. But left unchecked, it can consume every ounce of our energy and leave us depleted. Work matters — but it can’t be the only lane we travel in.
Hobbies remind us that we are more than just a ______ (you get to fill in the blank). They open space for joy, creativity, and stress relief. Making time for them is not selfish — it’s restorative. Investing in a hobby replenishes your energy so you can show up more fully in every other area of life.
Whether it’s volunteering with an organization, mentoring, or simply helping a neighbor, giving back creates connection. It reminds us that we are part of something bigger than ourselves. Even in the busiest seasons, small acts of service can shift our perspective, build belonging, and expand our sense of purpose
Think of these three — work, hobbies, giving back — as lanes on a road. When balanced, they move us forward with steadiness. Too much in any one lane leads to burnout or emptiness. But when we make space for all three, we gain resilience, fulfillment, creativity, and deeper relationships. Overall a happier you!
Here's a starting place:

Belonging, joy, and purpose are not luxuries — they are essentials. Balancing work, play, and service doesn’t weigh us down; it lifts us up. It gives us the energy to thrive, not just survive.
*Where do you feel out of balance right now-in work, hobbies, or giving back?
*What's one small step you can take this week to shift toward harmony?
Have the best balanced week! Show me those hobbies and share how you are giving back.
Much love,

I love this. Great advice and wonderful perspective! 💛
