The Space Between Reaction and Response
It often starts the same way. My client is describing a moment that caught them off guard, a conversation, an interaction, a decision they wish they had handled differently. As they talk, I can hear the frustration underneath the words. They replay what was said, what they wanted to say, and what they wish they had done instead. Eventually, they pause and say something like, “It all happened so fast.” And that’s often the most important part of the story. Not what was said. N

When January Is Almost Over—and Life Is Still Life
The last full week of January there’s a lot going on and you may be feeling a wide range of emotions. Many of us may be following, with heavy hearts, as protests and demonstrations unfold around the country, especially in Minneapolis, in response to recent federal enforcement actions and the tragic loss of life that has deeply shaken that community. Thank you for the loyalty and patience you have shown as the reader and recipient of my blog. You have shared them with friends and offered insightful feedback. I know when I send the blog to your email that what you don’t need is just one more email in your inbox. I am intentionally writing short, (I hope) interesting blogs that add value to your life. Some of you are

Before We Rush Forward
The lights on the tree are still glowing. There are only a few gifts left underneath to deliver. Leftovers fill the shelves in the fridge and tins half full of cookies are stacked on the counter. And the house is a little quieter and my schedule doesn’t feel quite as busy. It’s okay if you feel tired, tender, or a little empty after the holiday celebration. That feeling isn’t something that needs to be fixed, it’s a transition worth honoring. There’s a lot of emotional and ph
